TM 10-6640-239-13 1-33 u. Grease Working Machine.  The grease working machine is for ASTM test D-217.  It is hand-operated, portable and stored in laboratory cabinet U.  The machine measures the consistency of lubricating grease by penetration of standard cone. v. Kinematic Viscosity Bath.  The kinematic viscosity bath is mounted on the roadside countertop and is used for ASTM test D-445.  It operates on 110V, 60Hz, single-phase power supplied by A1CB5, located in the MAIN POWER PANEL.  The bath includes a cascade mechanical refrigeration system which has its cooing coil immersed in a clear flask.  Heaters, stirrers and the temperature control sensor are immersed with it in the liquid. Ports for capillary glass viscometers are at the front of the bath, and internal fluorescent lamps provide visibility through the front glass shield.  The flask has a 1/4” air line around the front to evaporate moisture that may condense on it.  A solid state controller maintains set temperature precisely.  A ten turn COURSE and a single turn FINE dial permit establishing temperatures from +70F to –70F.  The COURSE dial reads from 0 to 1000, and the FINE dial reads from 0 to 100.  The FINE dial permits set points to within 0.02F. w. Oven/Incubator.  The oven/incubator is mounted on the roadside countertop and is used to provide a controlled temperature, dry heat from ambient to 284F 1.8F (140C 1C).  It is used for dry heat incubation and general drying applications such as drying utensils, residues, and slides.  It operates on 110V, 60Hz, single-phase power supplied by A1CB12 located in the MAIN POWER PANEL.  Refer to vendor manual for calibration requirements. x. Penetrometer, Digital.  The digital is stored in the laboratory cabinet T and is designed to meet the requirements of ASTM test D-5, D-217, and D-937.  The penetrometer is used to measure penetration of grease with a penetration cone.  A penetration time is input via the numeric keypad and the instrument automatically releases plunger, counts down, and stops the plunger.  Penetration depth is displayed digitally.  The microprocessor controller retains memory and with a single keystroke, displays sample number, average, and standard deviation for SPC control charting.  It operates on 110V, 60 Hz, single-phase power supplied from a convenience outlet. y. Penetrometer, Universal.  The universal penetrometer is stored in laboratory cabinet K4 and is designed to meet the requirements of ASTM test D-217.  The penetrometer is used to measure penetration of grease with a penetration cone.  The penetrometer has a dial for measuring depth of penetration up to 38 millimeters on a single sweep of the dial needle.  The unit is supplied with stainless steel plunger bearings, preliminary setting and fine pitch micrometer adjustments, clutch, ASTM 2.5 gram needle, and a 50 gram weight. z. Petroleum Colorimeter.  The petroleum colorimeter is stored in laboratory cabinet F5 and is designed to meet the requirements of ASTM test D-1500.  It operates on 110V, 60 Hz, single-phase power supplied from a convenience outlet.  The petroleum colorimeter is used to compare petroleum products having an ASTM color of 0.5 or darker, including lubricating oils, heating oils, and diesel fuel oils.  To determine the ASTM color, the sample is compared against standard color disks in the Petroleum Colorimeter. aa. Refrigerating Circulator.  The refrigerating circulator is stored in laboratory cabinet T and is designed to provide cooling to the cloud, pour and freeze point apparatus.  The unit features a 6 liter reservoir and a cooling capacity of 390 watts.  The unit incorporates a liquid crystal display (LCD) electronic controller with an operating range from -30 to 120C and a control accuracy of 0.05C.  The unit also features an electronically controlled high output pump with five selectable settings and capable of a circulating flow rate of 20L/min in a closed loop system.  It operates on 110V, 60Hz, single-phase power supplied from a convenience outlet.  Refer to vendor manual for calibration requirements. ab. Refrigerator.  The refrigerator is mounted on the curbside of the laboratory.  It operates on 110V, 60Hz, single- phase power supplied from A1CB6 located in the MAIN POWER PANEL.  It is designed and constructed for explosion-proof operation.  Components that might create sparks or arcing have been enclosed and insulated against volatile, explosive fumes and gases that might escape from containers stored in its interior or envelope its exterior.  It provides 6.5 cubic feet (0. 182 cubic meters) of refrigerated storage.
