Take into account environmental conditions, such as extreme heat or cold, high humidity, blowing
sand, dust or loose debris, soft ground, mud, heavy snows, earthquakes, or combinations thereof
and take adequate precautions.
3.
Establish a fire plan and provide for adequate fire fighting equipment and personnel.
Maintenance Services and Inspections
Prior to storage, perform the next scheduled major preventive maintenance service (semi-annually or
annually).
Basic Issue Items (BII)
1.
Process BII simultaneously with the semitrailer to which they are assigned. If possible, store BII
with the semitrailer.
2.
If stored apart from the semitrailer, label BII with tags designating the vehicle, its registration, or
serial number and location and store in protection-type closures.
3.
In addition, place a tag or list indicating the location of the removed items in a conspicuous place in
the semitrailer.
Corrections of Shortcomings and Deficiencies
Correct all shortcomings and deficiencies prior to storage, or get a deferment from the approving
authority.
Lubrication
Lubricate equipment in accordance with applicable lubrication instructions (WP 0035 00, 0044 00) of this
manual.
General Cleaning, Painting, and Preservation

Clean dirt, grease, and other contaminants from the equipment in accordance with this manual (WP
CAUTION
Do not direct high-pressure water or steam against air cleaner, air duct outlets,
exhaust outlets, unsealed electrical systems, Automatic Fire Extinguishing System
(AFES) equipment, or any exterior components. Moisture will cause electrical
malfunctions. Condensation in ducts can cause corrosion.
2.
After cleaning and drying, immediately coat all unpainted metal surfaces with oil or grease as
appropriate.
