Net Device
There are two modes of deployment of the net device: Rapid Deployment and Lanyard Deployment (Stand-by Mode). The
VLAD net device is placed across the roadway with the leading edge facing the target vehicle approach. The leading edge of
the net device has two rows of sharp, hardened steel spikes covered with plastic sheaths to protect users from injury. Do not
remove the plastic sheaths as they are designed to crush down and expose the spikes when the target vehicle's tires run over
them. For Lanyard Deployment, two 28-foot deployment lanyards are clipped to the two red deployment handles on the side
of the folded net device. The lanyards are then stretched out across the road. This allows traffic to freely pass while deploy-
ment personnel, remaining at a relatively safe distance, can use deployment lanyards to quickly pull the net device across the
road if a target vehicle approaches.
