TM 10-6640-239-13 1-31 g. Centrifuge.  The centrifuge, located in cabinet D, is used in ASTM tests D-91, D-96, D-483, D-484, D-872, D-875, D-893, D-1019, D-1290, and D-1796.  It operates on 110V, 60 Hz, single-phase power from a convenience outlet in the laboratory compartment.  It is equipped with a variable speed control, electronic timer, built-in tachometer, and electric brake.  The cover is equipped with an electronic safety latch.  The cover cannot be opened if the centrifuge is operating or the line switch is in the OFF position.  Conversely, the centrifuge will not operate if the cover is open. h. Cloud, Pour and Freeze Point Test Bath.  The cloud, pour and freeze point test bath is mounted on the curbside countertop, above cabinet T, and is designed to meet the requirements of ASTM test D-97 and D2500.  It operates on 110V, 60Hz, single-phase power supplied from A1CB16 located in the MAIN POWER PANEL. i. Colorimeter.  The colorimeter is stored in laboratory cabinet F5 and is operated from 115Vac, 60Hz, single- phase power supplied by a convenience outlet.  The Colorimeter grades and compares petroleum oils and waxes according to ASTM D1500 specifications.  Color discs situated on either side of the sample contain standards conforming to the chromaticity coordinates of ASTM D1500.  Observations are made by turning dials on the front of the comparator (which rotates the discs) until the sample color matches the color standards and take the reading directly from the dials.  Two-disc configuration offers a distinct advantage over single-disc systems—the sample is always bracketed between the next lower and higher color standards allowing the viewer to easily determine the actual sample color.  Comparator may also be used to quickly determine if a sample falls between two predetermined color limits.  Samples may be viewed from either a standing or sitting position through a prism eyepiece that brings the standards and sample together in a three-field comparison.  A detachable prism light shield may be inserted to eliminate any outside light interference.  Color corrected filtered halogen light source corresponding to Illuminant C of the CIE system provides clear visibility, assuring accurate readings. j. Computer.  The computer system is stored in laboratory cabinet P1 and is operated from 115Vac, 60Hz, single- phase power supplied by a convenience outlet.  The computer system includes a 200 MHz Pentium processor, 32MB EDO memory, 2GB hard drive, a 12.1” LCD display, 1.44MB floppy drive, and a 20X CD-ROM drive. EDO memory is expandable to 96 MB.  The operating system is Microsoft Windows 95 with a FAT32 File System.  Utility programs include a diagnostics program, setup utility, DMI viewer and a PhoenixCard Manager for Windows 95.  The CD-ROM drive, floppy drive and the reset button are located along the left side.  Front panel connectors include a microphone and headphone jack.  Located on the right side are an external keyboard or mouse port, an infrared communications port, and the power switch.  The parallel port, external display port, serial port, USB port, and a DC-IN connector are located in the rear of the computer.  Cursor movement is controlled by the trackball located below the keyboard. k. Copper Strip Corrosion Bath.  The copper strip corrosion bath is used to perform ASTM test D-130.  It is portable and is stored in laboratory cabinet Y.  It requires 110V, 60Hz, single-phase power which is provided from one of the convenience outlets in the laboratory compartment.  It is used to determine relative corrosivity caused by sulfur compounds in petroleum products.  The apparatus consists of a constant temperature bath having a temperature range from ambient to 221F 1F (105C 0.5C), a 750W copper immersion heater, a thermoregulator, a Soxhlet condenser and a constant water level device.  It has a removable top plate and is provided with a test tube rack, test bombs, a thermometer, four rubber stoppers, copper strips, copper strip corrosion standards and has the capacity to hold four bombs. l. Coulometric Titrator.  The coulometric titrator is designed to measure trace quantities of water by coulometric Karl Fisher titration.  The titrator features rapid measurement, high efficiency and high accuracy.  All operations are carried out by a built-in microcomputer.  All important data are printed out on a thermal dot printer.  All parameters and titration conditions can be stored in advance in the instruments memory and retrieved when required.  The system is stored in laboratory cabinet S and operates on 110V, 60Hz, single-phase power provided from one of the convenience outlets in the laboratory compartment. m. Desiccating Cabinet.  The desiccating cabinet is mounted on the roadside wall above the countertop and is designed for ASTM test D-2276.  The cabinet is constructed of stainless steel with glass side panels.  Molded rubber door gaskets provide an airtight fit for the door.  The cabinet is also provided with manual a relief valve.
