6-22. SPARE TIRE CARRIER REPLACEMENT.

Equipment Conditions:
Landing legs down
Semitrailer disconnected from prime mover
Tires chocked
Ground boards emplaced
WARNING
The spare tire weighs 179 lb (81.2 kg). This requires two people
to remove the spare from the carrier or install it on the carrier.
Slide the spare from the carrier or on to the carrier--refrain
from lifting the spare into position. Failure to do so could result
in injury.
Securing hardware for the carrier and tire must be present,
serviceable and tight. Failure to comply with this Warning will
result in injury or death to personnel.
General Procedure:
a. Removal.
1.
Remove padlock (if applicable).
2.
Remove wing nut (2), washer (3), bolt hook (7), and spare tire from spare tire carrier (1).
3.
Remove six locknuts (4), washers (5), hex bolts (6), and spare tire carrier (1). Discard locknuts.
NOTE
Broken slats on spare tire carrier may be re -welded at Direct
Support. See TM 9-237 for welding instructions.
